93% of UK organisations were impacted by a data breach in 2013

07 January 2014

A survey commissioned by the UK Government’s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), highlighted that around 93% of large organisations had a security breach in 2013.

Although, this figure is similar to that of 2012, across smaller businesses there was a significant increase in data breaches.

The wider and more significant impact on businesses is the financial impact that these breaches bring. These breaches are currently costing companies on average between £35,000 for smaller organisations, to £850,000 for larger organisations.

These attacks are being delivered from both outside and inside the business, although some 36% are down to human error. This confirms the need to implement automated processes and procedures with technology to protect their employees and organisation.
